Birds – birds are beautiful but can be a challenge to paint. I’ve always loved hummingbirds since I was sitting on the front porch with my oldest son – at that time about 5 and a hummingbird hovered in front of us and somehow, magically seemed to give us a smile. It was a moment, one of those that you wonder if you imagined but still stays with you in a wistful way. When Spoonflower decided to have an animal by air challenge they were the first bird I thought of. I decided to do some rough watercolor paintings to try and get the feel for them and I really loved the way each came out.
I’ve done many of my designs in illustrator and have been working hard to add photoshop to my toolbox. I decided as a challenge to work this whole design in Photoshop and see how it turned out. I digitally painted some loose watercolor flowers, leaves and recolored the birds so they would all work within the colorway.
While I think there is still a lot to learn, I really enjoyed working through this design and look forward to working more in photoshop!

Of course, there are more products in all of my shops, this is just a little fly by to give you a sample. I hope you like my little hummingbirds!
